Nov '22: COP 27 Running Out of Time Baton Relay

COP27 Recyclable Baton Relay

As we've done for the last few years, the whole school participated in last week's official Outdoor Classroom Day (https://outdoorclassroomday.com/) - this year, by joining an international campaign demanding quality climate education for all (https://running-out-of-time.com/journey).

Our pupils learned about some of the environmental issues involved in this year's COP27 and what we can all do to help. Then, to show support for the actual baton carrying the message to COP27, Otford pupils joined 752,000 others from 2,129 schools in 104 countries in running baton relays using recyclable batons that they had made themselves. Across all year groups, the children managed to run over 160km!

As well as growing in their understanding of these vital issues, the children had lots of fun doing it, displaying great teamwork, creativity and huge determination in the relays themselves - well done to all involved. And special thanks to the Y6 PCO (Planet Clean-up Organisation) for all their help gathering data and composting the batons - keep up the good work!
