Monday, 1st February 2021
I am sure you will have seen on the news last week, the announcements regarding school closures. The earliest that schools will “begin to re-open” will be Monday the 8th March, which is the start of the third school week after the half term holiday; and we are told that there will be a plan/review set out on Monday, 22nd February with further updates. When the decision to return has been made, schools will have two weeks’ notice of this, prior to opening.
We are deeply disappointed that we are unable to return to face-to-face teaching and learning after the half term break, but of course, understand that public health and safety is critical in this current climate. We remain deeply appreciative of all the support of our parent community during this period of time, and the resilience of the children who are producing some fantastic learning on Portfolio in Class Dojo.
We are aware that we normally hold Parent Consultations in the Spring Term. This year we would like to open up this for your children to have a Pupil Conferencing Teams Meeting with their child’s class teacher. As we would normally do, this meeting will be held for 10 minutes and parents are very welcome to attend should they wish to do so. We are aiming for these to be held the week beginning the 8th February and the week of the 22nd February. For those children in school, parents are welcome to come to school to collect children prior to the meeting, or your child will be able to meet their class teacher either virtually or in person at school should you be unable to take time away from work commitments.
At the start of next week, your child’s class teacher will send an invite out for you to join a TEAMS meeting which will be arranged during the school day. Please do look out for this invite, which will clearly show you the arranged time.
Should you not have TEAMS loaded onto your device/ phone the link is provided below, if you have any problems with this or indeed would prefer a phone call please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
In order to fully support your children during this meeting, we will be emailing a Pupil Questionnaire for your children to complete. These will be sent out to parents this Friday. The class teachers in each year group have planned the questions linked to the learning, which has taken place this term. Your child’s views and thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. During the Pupil Conferencing Meeting, the teacher will have a copy of this to hand so you can refer back to this. Teachers will be using this feedback to help support your child over the coming weeks with the planned learning.
Last week, the Department for Education clarified that schools will not be asked to open during half term for critical workers, as happened in the first lock down. Free School Meal Provision during the half term holiday has been planned through the COVID Winter Grant Scheme, the responsibility of Kent County Council; the school will continue to provide Free School Meal vouchers in term time, until the children return to school.
It is a huge relief to see cases in our local area reducing significantly, and I very much hope you and your families remain safe and well. We will be delighted when we are able to welcome children back to school, it truly cannot come a moment too soon!
With my very best wishes
Mrs H Roberts (Headteacher)
