A letter from our Chair of Governors

23 February 2018

To all staff at Otford Primary

Dear Colleagues

I wanted to let you all know that with effect from 31 March 2018 I will be stepping down as chair of governors after nearly seven years in the role. I am delighted to say that Ben Harrison has been elected as chair by governors and assumes his role from 1 April. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and commitment. It feels like the school has been on a long journey and as governors we rely on your professionalism and efforts to get us there. The reality is the school is delivering good or outstanding teaching more consistently to our children than at any time I can remember. We are oversubscribed and in good financial shape despite the pressures on budgets. We’ve been able to make the deliberate choice to take a more generous approach to pay than other schools as a modest way of saying thank you. Our early years are recognised as an exemplar. We are winning at competitive sport. We are investing in the school environment and IT. We are growing children with pride in themselves. There’s always more to do, but I am really proud of what ultimately governors, teachers, support staff and volunteers all do for the children. I am going to genuinely miss serving as chair, although pleased to be asked by the governors to stay on as a co-opted governor. I know you are in safe hands with Ben and we are lucky to have an exceptional headteacher in Helen. Thank you once again. It’s been a privilege to serve with you as chair of governors. An announcement will go to parents later today. I am copying this letter to the board of governors.

Best wishes

Chris Christopher Woolard
