Otford Primary School Eco Monitors
Our Eco-Monitors are volunteers from each class who are committed to finding ways to make Otford School more eco-friendly. Our Eco-Monitors help develop and monitor strategies for recycling, saving energy and reducing waste. They are also responsible for developing the kitchen garden area so that we can grow our own produce and encourage greater biodiversity.
Our Eco Monitors for 2019-20:
Autumn Harvest time in the Kitchen Garden!
It’s harvest time in the kitchen garden. This week, our lovely year 5 children picked marrows, pumpkins, cabbage, tomatoes, sweetcorn and carrots. There’s some real magic in watching children harvest the wonderful produce they have grown themselves. It’s all the more special as Year 5 will have the opportunity to enjoy cooking with the crop, recreating wartime recipes as part of their WW2 topic.
Our school Eco-monitors and Year 6 Head Gardeners have enjoyed their first training session and have already begun to open the garden up to younger members of our school community (who love to help). We’ve already started savings seeds and clearing beds ready for a new year of growth!
